Mission Statement
Davis Dry Goods, founded in 1935, exists to provide the surrounding area with high-quality clothing, at exceptional value, while developing lasting relationships with our customers. During the course of our business, we will be an integral part of the Lexington and Henderson County community providing assistance when there is a need we are capable of filling. Davis Dry Goods will be a constant partner to assist in the growth and well-being of our community.
History
Established in 1935.
Herbert Davis, the grandfather of the current owner, David Small, founded Davis Dry Goods in downtown Lexington in 1935. In 1975 David’s parents, Carole & Elwood Small took over the business from Mr. Davis. Then, in 2004, David Small became the third-generation owner of Davis Dry Goods! Additionally, David purchased another location in 2008, where he expanded on women’s and children’s clothing and added a selection of medical uniforms. The business was at a point where it could continue to grow or scale back. David purchased the land for the future 7200-square-foot location in December 2015. He added about 25 percent more space to what he had in the three downtown locations. In January 2016, ground was broken for this brand-new location.
Meet The Owner
David was born and raised in Lexington, TN. He graduated from Lexington High School and went on to graduate from The University of Memphis with a BBA in 1991. David married Joanna Douglas Small in 1992 and they have 3 children, all living in the Memphis area. David is proud to be able to serve the mission of Davis’ Clothing and loves to build relationships with their customers and community.
